Tough week for Blades

After winning a pair of Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League games last weekend to even their record at 2-2 the Blades dropped three in a row this week – 6-3 to Essex 73’s Tuesday in Essex, 4-3 to Dresden Kings in Dresden and 9-4 to Mooretown Flags Sunday at the Blenheim Memorial Arena.

Blades rally fall short in Dresden

Dresden – Down 3-0 to Dresden Kings after the first period Friday night in Dresden, Blenheim Blades rallied to make a game of it before falling 4-3 in Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League North Division action.

The loss was the fourth of the year for the Blades, who have won twice and will host Mooretown Flags in another North Division game Sunday at 7:15 at the Blenheim arena.  Scott Gawne at 6:25, Jeremy Griffore at 13:10 and Joe Deboer at 16:30 led the first- period attack with a goal each for the Kings.

Blades fall to Champs 6-3

Essex – Blenheim Blades traveled to Essex Tuesday night for their first look at not only the Ontario and Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League defending champion 73’s, but also the brand new Essex arena.
While the place they were playing in was a huge improvement over the old ‘barn’ of an arena the 73’s used to call home, the results were pretty much the same for the Blades – a 6-3 lose despite playing extremely well through the first 48 minutes.
