Three Blades to play in Great Lakes Showcase game

Three members of the Blenheim Blades have been selected to play in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League’s annual Showcase game that pits players from the five North Division teams against their South Division four-team counterparts.

The game will be Thursday, Jan. 7 in Kingsville at 7:30 p.m.  Each team is required to send two forwards and a defenceman, with the top two teams in each division filling in the remaining spots. Over-age players are not allowed to participate.

Percy Pickering wins Blades Cash Club draw

Sunday night at the start of the third period of the Blenheim Blades Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League game between the Blades and Wallaceburg Lakers – won by the Blades 6-5 – the team held its annual Cash Club Draw with the top prize of $1,000 going to Percy Pickering of Duart.

The second-place price of $500 was won by Deb Brooks of Chatham, and Gail Blonde of Chatham, Hank Vander Pol of Blenheim, Don Loveday of Morpeth, and Tony Rumble, Larry Collins, Matt Frain, Bruce Mifflin, Mike McNear, Ken King and Bob Hebblethwaite, all of Blenheim, all won $50 each.
 

Huge 6-5 win for Blades over Wallaceburg

Blenheim Blades went into last Sunday’s action 12 points behind Alvinston Flyers in the race for the fourth, and final, playoff spot in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League’s North Division.

Three wins later the gap is seven points as the Blades won three out of four in eight days wrapping things up with a huge 6-5 victory over North Division leading Wallaceburg Lakers before 337 fans Sunday night at the Blenheim arena. Prior to the game the Blades honoured last year Blenheim Bantam team that made it to the OMHA Bantam CC finals.

Belle River too much for Blades over last two periods

Belle River – For the first 20 minutes Blenheim Blades, last in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League North Division, stayed with, and outplayed, the powerful South Division leading Belle River Canadiens Friday night in Belle River.
Down just 1-0, and leading in shots on goal 12-8, the Blades found out in the last 40 minutes why the 22-4-1 Canadiens have been the best Great Lakes team so far this season as Belle River scored nine more times for a 10-1 victory.
